This can be caused by different factors, among which may be mentioned high blood LDL cholesterol. To understand a little more, in this note brindaré you a video, where you can see how atherosclerosis occurs and what is the effect of cholesterol on the arteries.

Atherosclerosis is caused by the association of different causative agents: physical inactivity, obesity, hypertension, diabetes, high cholesterol, smoking, alcoholism, family history and age.

Some of these risk factors cannot be changed such as age and family history, but others can and should be changed to prevent atherosclerosis.

One of the preventive measures can be taken, is to reduce consumption of fatty foods containing cholesterol, saturated fat and Trans.

Cholesterol is classified into two types

    * LDL or bad cholesterol, which transports cholesterol from the liver to body cells.
* HDL cholesterol or good, which carries cholesterol to the liver cells.

When there is a concentration of LDL cholesterol greater than 150mg/dl, this can be deposited on the inner walls of arteries damaged by such high voltage. If this happens there is an inflammation and oxidation process, which over time can become an arterial plaque or atheroma.

This can happen in different parts of the body, which can produce different consequences. This will depend on having such stability of atheromatous plaque.

    * If the arterial plaque is stable, can continue growing, partially blocking the artery.
* If the plaque is unstable, and breaks can produce clots that completely clog the arterial lumen. This form can result in a myocardial infarction or stroke.

To prevent this from happening you need to change certain habits modifiable:

    * Changing food.
* Stop smoking.
* Make physical activity.
* Controlling blood glucose and blood pressure.

All these changes must be supplemented with periodic checkups. This will avoid major complications and you can enjoy a better quality of life.

Learn how to get real food in the XXI century
Priority 1: Fresh food at each meal.
In our society, eating is something easy, just go down to the snack machine in the cafeteria of your work to get a sandwich of tuna pasta for just over one euro. But finding real food can be a daunting task in this stressful time, to get it chooses to take fruits, nuts, seeds, salads and vegetables that can be taken every day and uncooked steamed most of the vegetables more fibrous. You do not have to be extreme and eat raw foods because you can and should cook to prevent food poisoning with food such as meat or eggs or raw fish allergy by the presence of Anisakis.
Priority 2: Food allowed.
The main rule to follow a Paleolithic menu is logical thinking and eating food, plants and animals you would find if you live in the countryside and consumed with the benefits of today, you do not eat meat or raw vegetables, you can cook grilled or steamed.
The food list includes: game meat, poultry, eggs, fish, nuts and seeds such as walnuts, almonds, hazelnuts, sunflower seeds and pumpkin, all kinds of fruits such as apples, pears, peaches, apricots, bananas, oranges, mandarins, etc.., leafy greens like spinach, lettuce, chard, broccoli, cabbage, etc.., the garden vegetables such as celery, peppers, asparagus, etc.., bulbs such as garlic, onions, leeks, roots and tubers such as carrots, beets, turnips, potatoes, sweet potatoes, etc.., soft grains and legumes such as corn or peas, mushrooms and honey.
Priority 3: Foods Not Allowed
Of course you have to eliminate processed foods such as bread, pastries, pasta or cereals such as wheat durum wheat, rice and vegetables that can be eaten soft. Avoid all dairy products that could not be obtained by milking a wild animal, refined sugars and cakes, frying fats and oils except that can be obtained by cold pressing of oil seeds such as olive, sesame or sunflower. Eliminate alcohol, except as may be obtained by natural fermentation and the wine in small quantities.
Priority 4: The percentage change
In the paleolithic diet is calorie ratio of 20-35% protein, 30-60% fat and 20-30% carbohydrates. As for the origin of the food there is also a dramatic change: a 45-65% are of animal origin and vegetables are 35-55%, but due to the amount of water in fruits and vegetables, are weight ratios 2 / 3 of plant foods and 1 / 3 of animal foods.
Priority 5: Hydration is different
Until recent years, the running water was a source of infection, so no one drank it, we are now completely obsessed with hydration and some experts are beginning to sound the alarm to excess water. Remember to also replace lost vitamins and minerals through sweating during exercise, so do not you just want to drink water also have to take every day foods like fruits and vegetables rich in water, vitamins and minerals.
Priority 6: Hit with proteins
The balance of essential fatty acids in the modern Paleolithic menu. Apart from removing the fat from meat and poultry, prevent the viscera of animals that accumulate high concentrations of industrial pollutants and do not eat brains like our forefathers because they are a good source of omega-3, is now a dangerous food since the discovery of the Prions and mad cow disease. Try to buy meat from animals that have fed on natural pasture without feed, try the wild game such as rabbits, deer, boar, pheasant, duck, etc. that are common in the Peninsula and other more exotic like the kangaroo, reindeer, crocodile, ostrich, buffalo, duck, etc. You can take up to 6 eggs a week, but do not take more than 1 a day. Fish is a good choice as a source of protein, branched chain amino acids and omega-3 fatty acids, although you should avoid because it comes from fish farms are fed and feed is richer in fat and less omega-3 fatty acids, nor take Large fish that live a long time as swordfish, tuna and shark because they accumulate more heavy metals such as mercury and toxins in their flesh. Choose salmon, mackerel, trout, herring, sardines, cod, sole, monkfish, turbot, anchovy, hake, etc.. And good news, with paleodiet can go back to eating seafood without fear of cholesterol, our ancestors were good shellfish, placed low tides reach as many molluscs and crustaceans, barnacles, mussels, barnacles, clams, cockles, razor, etc.. they were easy to collect and a good source of protein and iron rich foods but are high in cholesterol, it was found that cholesterol-containing foods low in saturated fat does not affect blood cholesterol.
Priority 7: Learn to cook with healthy fats
Oil seed oils are readily available by mechanical pressure and although they were a staple food of the paleolithic diet if taken as oil seeds like olives, avocado, canola and sunflower. Now you can align your dishes whenever oil or extra virgin cold-pressed. Avoid cooking at high temperatures, do not reuse and use them preferably as vegetables and salad dressing.

The animal products like meat, eggs and dairy products are some of the main sources of protein in our diet. However, in some cases it is advisable to limit consumption of these foods and choose lower fat versions. This is especially important if you raised the “bad” cholesterol in the blood, since among other problems, animal fats increase the risk of a heart attack. Read on to see what you should eat to reduce bad cholesterol in your body.

Cholesterol is a substance the body needs to function properly, but must be within ranges considered normal to stay healthy. There are two main types of cholesterol: one is called “bad” cholesterol (English low-density lipoprotein) and the other “good” or HDL (the English high-density lipoprotein). The latter protects the arteries of developing atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries), so it’s good to have high levels of HDL. Conversely, having high levels of LDL is associated with an increased risk of heart disease and stroke.

While it is true that the elevation of “bad” cholesterol may be due to genetic causes and is sometimes necessary to take medicine to decrease, it is equally true that our habits, I mean our diet and physical activity level may affect the level cholesterol we have. So many times you can lower the LDL level simply by improving certain habits.

So if you have problems with high levels of cholesterol in your blood and your doctor has recommended that you go down what foods you should avoid? Start by reducing animal. In this group are meats (especially red), eggs (although you can eat the whites) and dairy (although you can eat low-fat dairy products or fat). Foods that contain trans fats, such as snacks, cakes and sweets, also raise LDL. On the other hand, the plants provide low cholesterol levels and whole grains rich in fiber. Of course, it is also important how you cook. For example:

* Use low-fat dairy products or defatted. And substitute sour cream or mayonnaise yogurt from whole-fat mayonnaise.
* Use olive oil or oil instead of butter Cannole. And it decreases the amount of oil you use for frying. No need to drown out what you cook. Limit fried foods in general.
* If the recipe suggests frying pan, be creative. Consider roasting, baking, scalping, grilling or steaming.

Here I give some examples of foods that will help lower bad cholesterol (of course it is important to watch the portion size because you want to maintain a healthy weight):

1. Oat bran and high fiber cereals
2. Fish with Omega 3 fatty acids (like salmon, sardines and tuna)
3. Walnuts, almonds, hazelnuts and other nuts
4. Olive oil
5. Foods containing added sterols and stanols (such as margarine, juice and yogurt)

Cheer up! Eating healthy is easier than it looks. If you eat meat, choose poultry (without skin), fish or lean red meat (in moderation).

Finally, note that in addition to eating a healthy diet is also important to stay active to reduce your level of bad cholesterol and your risk of heart disease. Of course the only way to know your levels of cholesterol, HDL and LDL in your blood is a blood test ideally fasting (after not eating for 8 hours.) If you still do everything you need in terms of what you eat and your physical activity, your levels will remain above the normal range, fortunately we have drugs that your doctor can prescribe. Become your regular checkups. Remember that prevention is better than cure. The first symptom of high cholesterol can be a heart attack. You can avoid it.
