Caries, you know, is a very insidious disease that only if caught in time it is easy to treat without resorting to large operations.
But if the damage reaches deep and affect the sensitive tissues of the tooth (causing severe pain) should be treated with invasive and certainly more expensive.
Today, however, from what has emerged from new research carried out by the University of Saarland, Hamburg, has demonstrated the effectiveness of cold gas plasma for the treatment of caries.
The team directed by Stefen Rupf has seen that exposing the infected tissue of the bad tooth, for about twenty seconds, the jet of gas, removes bacteria without causing damage to the tooth. And, most importantly, the method does not cause suffering.
It seems that within 5 years will become real the possibility of treating dental caries with a jet of cold gas plasma, which will clean the tooth from bacteria and will help eliminate the diseased tissue without risk of injury (ie without the use of the drill!) .
The gas plasma is not remotely comparable to the drill. It ‘a cloud composed of electrically charged particles generated by a strong electromagnetic field directed to hydrogen peroxide. The cloud hits the tooth and that contact, even if it takes a few seconds, enough to defeat the cavities. The tooth, in this case, is protected in the most absolute, explains Dr. Rupf: “Thanks to low temperatures can kill microbes while preserving the teeth” and act in a non-invasive process.
