History of Iridology

history of iridologyMany stories of alternative medicine are based on a legend, a specific event that led to the development of a therapy that survives and is used to today. An analogy of this we can see in the episode of Newton’s apple, which opened the way to developing the theory of gravity that rules over all bodies. Well, something similar happens with the history of iridology.

Let’s review the concept of which we have spoken many times on our blog. Iridology is an alternative therapy that assumes the patient’s diagnosis through analysis of their iris. The iridologist, noting the patient’s eye with attention, certain brands and expressions identified in the iris, from which can diagnose the illness or emotional problem that afflicts the patient. Like many alternative therapies, iridology is based on a homeopathic principle, and Seasoned iridologists generally have some training in homeopathy.

Going back to history, iridology, we refer to two names: the Hungarian Ignaz von Peczely and Nils Liljequist, Swedish by birth, both born in the nineteenth century and both fundamental in the development of this therapy.

Ignaz von Peczely was born on January 26, 1826 in Egervar, a town near Budapest. Von Peczely since childhood was very observant, and the ten-year-old captured an owl in an attempt to escape their hands broke his leg. Von Peczely immediately noted that a dark line formed in the bottom of the iris of the animal. With the passing of the hours and the stabilization of the injury, the stain of the eye of the owl was vanishing before vanishing entirely.

Subsequently made the same observations in men, which allowed him to develop the theoretical foundation of modern iridology and continue investigating the matter.

Unfortunately, like the scientific community rejects the iridology as a diagnostic method, von Peczely at the time struggled against existing theories, and his position was never recognized by the scientific community at the time. He died in 1911, despite not having had the recognition he deserved, his theory continues until today and gives shape to this wise alternative therapy.

The other name associated with iridology is to Nils Liljequist, a contemporary Swedish priest von Peczely. Liljequist worked independently of him, but came to the same results in their research.

However, what differentiated their work from which made the Hungarian scholar was the area of their observations. As in the case of von Peczely initial observation occurred in the iris of an owl, in the case of this occurred Swedish researcher in your own iris.

Liljequist was chronically ill with malaria, influenza, polyps and other diseases. As the development of symptomatic disease was provided certain medications, and the actions of these are manifested in the form of certain impressions on your iris. Each chemical was entering the body produced a different brand in the iris, and through its analysis could diagnose the patient.

Time has passed, but the basics are handled throughout the history of iridology. Eyes act as a window into the patient’s health status, and the use of iridology maps is widespread in the area of alternative medicine.

Of course, the resistance of the traditional medical community to recognize the basics of iridology is still radical, and rightly so, because it does not rely only on empirical observations. However, time and experience have helped patients to recognize security as an effective method of diagnosis and decide from that how to treat certain diseases.
